GIVING THE BRIDE AWAY
Personal family issues in my professional opinion have proven to be the major cause of stress for Bride and Grooms planning a wedding.

As only an example, below is a situation I have experienced.

MY FATHER IS NOT WELCOME

The bride explained because of understandable reasons, her father isn't welcome at her wedding. She will be inviting his side of the family as she is very close to them. She was stressed on who would be a good choice to walk her down the aisle in place of her father to give her away?

I explained she needn't get into the details and If the "understandable reasons" are well-known with the family members, as for who should walk her down the aisle, using another senior member of the family would be appropriate.

However, it's not mandatory or necessary for "anyone" to walk with her, unless there is someone who she has a special emotional attachment to. Any man she feels very close to *could* escort her, if she choose. On many occasions I have even seen brides who were escorted by their mothers.

On the flip side, for many non-traditional ceremonies it has become increasingly popular -- especially with individuals marrying for a second time and older or more independent brides -- to walk independently down the aisle, or for couples to completely dispense with the entire concept of "who gives this woman to be married" -- or to re-word it to better suit their specific relationships and feeling of independence by having the officiants ask the entire crowd "Do The Loved Ones Of This Bride Support This Woman To Be Married?"

Feel free to think through touchy issues and portions of your ceremony, and plan it so it suits your own tastes and specific situation.
